While working as part of the American Conservation Experience team, Jared collaborated with the BLM Cedar City Office on a land planning and recreation design for an area in Cedar Canyon. The area of interest was BLM land along hwy 14 in Cedar Canyon. The area was suffering from heavy, unrestricted use with dispersed camping, dumping, parking to access trails and the river, and other activities. In order to support the appropriate uses of the site and discourage misuse, A master plan was developed in conjunction with existing BLM land plans. As part of the design process Jared helped coordinate and lead an on-site charrette with students from SUU. A trail head was designed to minimize impact on the fragile ecosystem while providing access to the major trails in the area. The trail head included fencing to control access, signage to improve way finding, parking, picnic/day-use areas, pedestrian bridge and restroom facilities. A campground was designed with 13 camping spurs and a fee station. A group site was determined to be needed and was designed for up to 60 people as a reservable site which included a pavilion, parking lot, restroom facilities, fire ring, and dispersed camping areas.
