Alpine landscapes present a fun challenge
Designing a site and landscape for a home at over 9000 ft. elevation poses several challenges that must be addressed including soil remediation, hardy plant selection, and snow removal and winter access among others. The project located at the Colony was a collaboration with Jon DeGray Architect. This residence is dramatically poised just above a natural outcropping. A patio off the great room and kitchen allows the residents to dine and socialize above this natural rocky outcropping taking in some dramatic views of the Canyons ski resort in Park City Utah. An existing White Pine is preserved by the design and is a boon to the owner as it provides a majestic scaling element right in front of the home. Native plants hardy to the harsh environments were planted in mass to mitigate damage from browsing deer, elk and moose.
